How to check that your guitar's neck angle is set correctly.
So Les Paul's have a neck angle and strats are straight, right? Or is it to do with angled headstocks or maybe carved tops? What is a neck angle anyway?
Simply put, the neck angle is the degree to which the neck of your guitar pitches back towards your body and that all depends on the height of your bridge. If its low like a standard trem, your guitar probably doesn't need much of an angle to keep the stings at a good height along the length of your fretboard. If the bridge is high, like a Tune-O-Matic, lifting the bridge end of the fretboard by tilting the neck back will achieve the same outcome.
Here is a diagram;
You can check for a good neck angle by lowering your bridge to the lowest point and placing a straight edge along the frets and to the saddles. If it sits smartly on all of them, you're set. Too high or too low and you might need some adjustment.
