Tales from a workshop

A doorway to a new realm

Since the conversion of a double garage into a music studio and workshop, I have wanted to get back up into the loft space. There used to be an opening but the builders seemed to think a hole in the ceiling might look odd. Whilst it would be awesome to grow the studio up into that space too, for now I need to get up there so I can run power and broadband.

Cutting a hole in the nicely plastered ceiling seemed a little daunting. Then I remembered, if I am brave enough to take an angle grinder to the maple top of a guitar I've been building all week, I can muster the courage to cut that big hole.

The roof structure is pre-fabricated so cutting joists is a big no, unless I want to get a structural engineer around, and I don't. That's ok though. I just need access.

One social distanced click and collect from SrewFix and I had all I needed to open up that loft. It was a messy job, but its done. Next stop, plan out some cable runs.

Especially Ethernet.

Here are some photo's.

Happy Riffing!
